Understanding What Medicare Covers

Medicare can feel complicated — but it doesn't have to. Here's a breakdown of everything we can help you navigate.

🏥

Original Medicare (Parts A & B)

Hospital insurance (Part A) and medical insurance (Part B) form the foundation of your Medicare coverage. We'll help you understand exactly what's covered and what isn't.

Medicare Advantage (Part C)

Private insurance plans that bundle Parts A, B, and often D — often including vision and dental. We compare all plans available in your county to find your best fit.

💊

Part D — Prescription Drug Plans

Standalone drug plans that work alongside Original Medicare or Medigap. New 2026 rules are changing out-of-pocket drug costs — don't get caught off guard.

🛡️

Medicare Supplement (Medigap)

Fill the gaps Original Medicare leaves behind. Medigap plans pay copays, coinsurance, and deductibles — giving you predictable, consistent coverage.

👁️

Vision, Dental & Supplemental

Original Medicare doesn't cover routine vision or dental. We find auxiliary plans that add this essential coverage affordably alongside your main Medicare plan.

🏠

Post-Hospital & Long-Term Care

Medicare's long-term care coverage is limited. We help you understand your exposure and find options that protect you from devastating out-of-pocket costs.

Medicare Advantage vs. Medigap — Which Is Right for You?

This is the most important Medicare decision most people face. Both have pros and cons, and the right answer depends on your health, lifestyle, and budget. I'll give you an honest, unbiased comparison.

  • Recently divorced or widowed

Common Questions

Medicare FAQs

Here are answers to the questions I hear most often from seniors approaching Medicare eligibility.

Your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) begins 3 months before your 65th birthday month and ends 3 months after. Enrolling late — without qualifying coverage — can result in permanent monthly penalties. If you're still working with employer coverage, you may be able to delay Part B without penalty.
If you don't sign up for Part B when first eligible, your premium can increase 10% for every 12-month period you were eligible but didn't enroll. This penalty is permanent and added to your monthly premium for as long as you have Part B.
Significant changes to Part D took effect for 2025 and 2026, including a new $2,000 out-of-pocket cap on prescription drugs and changes to the catastrophic coverage phase. These changes affect which plan is best for you. I stay current on all rule changes so you don't have to.
Original Medicare (Parts A & B) does not cover routine dental, vision, or hearing. Some Medicare Advantage plans include these benefits. If you have a Medigap supplement, we can find standalone dental and vision plans to pair with it. I'll help you build a complete coverage package.
Part A is usually premium-free if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes for 10+ years. Part B has a standard monthly premium (set by the government each year). Medicare Advantage plans often have $0 premium. Medigap supplements have premiums that vary by plan and carrier. I'll show you all the actual costs.
